Ottowa, the range designed exclusively for BoConcept by Karim Rashid includes this gorgeous and versatile extendible dining table which has captured the imagination of many of our regular customers in a way we see quite often at BoConcept Bournemouth.

It’s perfectly understandable why! From the functionality of a beautiful table which can seat 12 people comfortably and easily push to 14, the tried and tested slightly matted white or newer oak surfaces and choice of leg finishes – just look at it!

Karim used the flowing curves and delicate shapes of nature as inspiration for this range, matched perfectly with the Ottowa dining chair and sideboard combination this table would make a statement in all types of homes.

The Ottowa table is available from BoConcept Bournemouth in White Lacquer and Oak Veneer tops with a choice of Matted Black or Brushed Steel legs and is proudly on display if you would like to come down and admire it.

As we are now hitting spring/summer I feel although I need a change. What are spring/summer colour trends this year?

Answer:

With the New Year officially behind us and spring/summer firmly in our sights, it’s always a good time to refresh our homes and give it a new injection of colour and bring things up to date.

Spring/summer 2012 is a time to bring a bit of playfulness into our homes. We will be inspired by a mixture of soft pastels and near neon brights that will give your interior an unexpected dynamic. By contrasting these two ranges of colour this will give your interior a truly modern feel, this trend is all about mixing the natural and man-made together. We will be seeing a lots of mathematical style prints which are always fun to inject into your space. A colourful geometric print whether it is on a cushion, wallpaper or even decorative objects will also contribute to giving an existing interior new life. This spring/summer is all about eye popping clashes of colour and mixing up materials to create an unexpected element to your home, it is a trend to have fun with!

My oldest son has moved out and I’m going to turn his bedroom into a games room and chill out area for my two other sons. Do you have any funky chairs, bean bags or accessories you can suggest?

Answer:

I would definitely recommend a couple of living chairs, like our iconic Imola or Rock chairs in leather or a bright fabric. They are fantastic for adding a contemporary edge to a room as well as being that visually appealing “hot spot”. The Mezzo would also be a great choice for a sofa as the base cushions are removable for easy cleaning and the exclusive stitching detail ensures the fabric or leather maintains its shape even with long term use. It’s a modular sofa perfect for entertaining or lounging with adjustable back cushions for extra comfort and flexibility. You could also add a table module into the configuration, which has storage space inside for all those gaming extras.

Our media units are specifically designed to neatly store away all your media players, satellite boxes and gaming consoles with the uncluttered option of an AV transmitter to control them. Compliment your media unit by creating a feature wall system ideal for storage or displaying items in a creative pattern using our trendy Volani Corner Boxes.

Punctuate the room with a bright piece of art and funky floor standing lamp. Pick a colour in the artwork and echo it in some unusual accessories around the room to tie the look together. Question:

I am moving into a ground floor flat and there is very little natural light. What is the best way to add light to the rooms, not only with lamps but also with colour schemes?

Answer:

A room without much natural light can present an initial design challenge that involves strategic lighting, colour choices and furniture selection. With the correct combination of these elements, you can easily create a bright, inviting home.

Firstly, give the walls and ceiling a fresh coat of white paint. Even if the walls are already painted white, it can yellow over time. Using a gloss finish on the walls will reflect light instead of absorbing it. Also consider on-trend soft, chalky shades of beige and warm muted greys for the walls complimented with bright accents in your accessories and furnishings.

Cover dark flooring with a large, light-coloured area rug and choose furniture pieces that are simple in design with clean lines. Try using reflective surfaces where appropriate, such as large mirrors and glass coffee tables to help reflect the light around the room and make the space seem brighter and airier.
When selecting lamps for your rooms, think about the function of the lamp and the mood you would like to create. Bear in mind the kind of bulbs you use as these will also give you different lighting qualities. You could even use indirect lighting such as LED lights running underneath shelves or inside open wall units to create an illuminated effect.

Volani Highboard

Another perfect 50’s replica with its seamless clean lines and beautiful simplicity that Scandinavian design so reliably gives. This one has a twist, somebody’s come up with the ingenious idea of making what could be an ordinary sideboard in a dining or living room to doubling up as a desk by having the middle ‘draw’ as a drop down on soft closing pistons creating a very functionable desk to sit and work at it.

It can house your crockery, silverware, napkins AND keep your admin files neat and organised, making this an incredibly versatile unit.

So, if you are looking at space saving option, this could just be it!

Of course, you can opt for no drop down at all and or have the top ‘draw’ completely open, you can also specify it with no legs, and of course there are endless different combinations to play with on the finishes side.

London Chair

This one sings Scandinavian design, characterised by its simple classic form, minimalistic shape and dual functionality, there are near endless different finish combinations with this chair making it an incredibly versatile.

The legs can either be in a runner style, which enables you to stack them, brilliant for those commercial projects, or just if you have limited space. The various finishes available are black lacquer or stainless steel.

There are numerous different combinations you can create with the seat finishes too, whether you want an upholstered look in fabric or leather, or a hardwood finish in black stained or white lacquered oak any number of these options will no doubt blend with any interior scheme.

Overall it’s a great stylised chair iridescent in choice of finishes, comfortable yet adaptable and totally beams beautiful Scandinavian craftsmanship.

Q:

I want to buy a new Sofa for my family home, but as this is an expensive purchase I want something comfy and classic that will last a long time, and is suited to a large family. What do you suggest?

A:

When looking for a sofa the three main things to consider are style, comfort and fabric/leather.
The style of the sofa must reflect the atmosphere of your home, when choosing a sofa for a family home I would always be inclined to opt for a modular sofa that allows the whole family to sit very sociably together. Comfort is essential and a high quality sofa should last you many years. At BoConcept our sofas are made very comfortable by the foam used in our seat and back cushions which also helps them to retain their shape for many years. A sofa with lots of cushions and a relaxed style will give you the comfort and classic style that is desired.

When choosing a sofa, invariably the biggest decision is what fabric or leather to choose. Both will last a long time, although a luxurious fabric may create a more relaxed and softer touch to your interior.
